Glucomannan is not digested by human enzymes and passes into the colon, but in the small intestine it acts by absorbing water and forming a bulky fiber, which can slow gastric emptying and may aid in modulating nutrient absorption. Clinical studies have shown that glucomannan supplementation can help alleviate constipation, which is a function closely related to small intestine transit.
