Aloe polysaccharides, primarily acemannan found in Aloe vera gel, have been investigated for their potential benefits on the gastrointestinal system, including the small intestine. Scientific studies have shown that Aloe vera polysaccharides possess anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and mucosal healing properties, which can be relevant to small intestinal health. For example, some animal and in vitro studies suggest that Aloe polysaccharides may help reduce intestinal inflammation, improve barrier function, and promote healing in models of intestinal injury or colitis. There is also some evidence that these polysaccharides can modulate gut microbiota, which may indirectly benefit small intestine function.

However, while these findings are promising, most of the evidence comes from preclinical studies, with limited high-quality human trials directly investigating Aloe polysaccharides’ effects on the small intestine specifically. Clinical studies in humans have mostly focused on Aloe’s benefits for general digestive health or for conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and ulcerative colitis, which are more associated with the colon. Thus, while there is scientific rationale and some supportive data, the direct evidence for Aloe polysaccharides supporting small intestine health in humans is currently limited, justifying a moderate evidence rating.
