Somatropin, also known as recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH), has strong scientific backing for its use in supporting the skeletal system. Somatropin is structurally identical to the natural growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland, which is critical for the growth and maintenance of bones. In children with growth hormone deficiency, somatropin therapy is well-established in promoting linear bone growth, increasing bone mineralization, and ensuring proper skeletal development. Numerous randomized controlled trials and long-term cohort studies have demonstrated that somatropin increases growth velocity and improves final adult height in pediatric patients with growth disorders, including those with Turner syndrome, chronic renal insufficiency, and Prader-Willi syndrome.

In adults, somatropin is used to treat growth hormone deficiency, and research shows it helps maintain bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Growth hormone stimulates the production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which in turn promotes bone formation and remodeling. Meta-analyses and clinical guidelines from endocrinology societies support somatropin’s efficacy for bone health in both pediatric and adult populations with diagnosed deficiencies. However, somatropin is not indicated for general skeletal health or osteoporosis in individuals with normal growth hormone levels. Its use is strictly regulated due to risks such as joint pain, edema, and potential glucose metabolism disturbances.
