Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Historically, animal testicles—often from bulls, sheep, or other mammals—have been used in various traditional medicines, including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and in some ancient European remedies, to try to enhance sex drive or treat sexual dysfunction. This practice is rooted in the ancient concept of "like cures like," where consuming the organ of an animal was believed to strengthen or heal the corresponding organ or function in humans. For example, in TCM, animal testicles are sometimes used in formulas meant to "tonify yang" or improve male vitality. However, there is little to no modern scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of consuming animal testicles for increasing sex drive. The rationale is largely symbolic and based on tradition, rather than on pharmacological or clinical evidence. Some testicles do naturally contain small amounts of testosterone or other hormones, but these are typically broken down during digestion and are unlikely to have a significant physiological effect when consumed orally. Modern medical practice does not recommend the use of animal testicles for treating low sex drive, and there is a lack of well-designed clinical trials evaluating their efficacy for this purpose.
