Cynoglossum grande, commonly known as Pacific hound's tongue, has limited historical or ethnobotanical documentation regarding its use specifically for treating scratches and abrasions. However, some related species within the genus Cynoglossum (such as Cynoglossum officinale) have been used traditionally by Native American groups and in European herbal medicine for minor wounds, skin irritations, and abrasions. These uses were mostly topical applications of poultices or infusions made from the leaves. The rationale for such use was mainly based on the mucilaginous nature of the plant parts, believed to provide a soothing effect and a protective barrier over minor skin injuries.

There is currently no modern scientific evidence specifically supporting the efficacy or safety of Cynoglossum grande for scratches and abrasions. Furthermore, due to the potential presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (which can be toxic, particularly to the liver), the use of any Cynoglossum species for medicinal purposes is regarded with caution in contemporary herbal practice.
