Rating (out of 5): 2

Luo Han Guo (Siraitia grosvenorii, also known as monk fruit) is primarily used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to relieve coughs, moisten the lungs, and soothe the throat. Its traditional use is most closely associated with conditions involving "lung heat" and dryness, which may include symptoms such as sore throat, cough, and hoarseness. Rhinitis, characterized by inflammation of the nasal mucosa (often from allergies or infection), may share some overlapping symptoms with these traditional indications—especially when there is accompanying throat irritation or cough.

In TCM texts, Luo Han Guo is not specifically cited as a primary remedy for rhinitis. However, its general role in moistening the throat and clearing heat from the lungs can be interpreted by some practitioners as supportive for upper respiratory tract conditions, including rhinitis with similar presentations (e.g., dryness, irritation).

From a scientific perspective, there are limited studies on Luo Han Guo for rhinitis specifically. Some laboratory research has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and a few studies suggest potential immunomodulatory effects. However, direct clinical trials or robust scientific validation for its use in rhinitis are lacking. Thus, the use of Luo Han Guo for rhinitis is justified mainly by traditional practices rather than by strong scientific evidence.
