Rating (out of 5): 1

Antler, commonly referred to as "deer antler" or "velvet antler," has a long history of use in traditional medicine, particularly in East Asian systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In these traditions, antler is believed to support joint health, vitality, and overall well-being, and is sometimes recommended for conditions that resemble rheumatoid arthritis (RA), such as joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation. The rationale behind its use is based primarily on its perceived ability to tonify the kidney and liver, which are thought to govern the bones and joints in TCM theory.

However, scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of antler for rheumatoid arthritis is very limited. A few animal studies and in vitro experiments suggest that antler extracts might have anti-inflammatory or immunomodulatory effects, but these findings have not been robustly replicated in human clinical trials, especially for RA specifically. Systematic reviews and authoritative medical sources generally conclude that there is insufficient high-quality evidence to recommend antler as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. The majority of its use for RA remains rooted in tradition rather than in validated scientific research. As such, while antler is traditionally used for joint-related ailments, its effectiveness for treating RA in particular is unproven and should be approached with caution.
