Neem (Azadirachta indica) has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, especially within Ayurveda and Unani, where it is reputed to influence the reproductive system. Traditionally, neem has been used as a contraceptive agent, particularly in female reproductive health, and also as a treatment for various gynecological disorders. Some formulations include neem oil or extracts for their purported spermicidal effects or to address infections of the reproductive tract due to neem’s well-known antimicrobial properties.

However, scientific validation for these uses remains limited. Some animal studies have explored neem extracts' effects on fertility, showing potential antifertility actions, such as reduced sperm motility or altered estrous cycles, but robust clinical trials in humans are lacking. The World Health Organization has cited neem oil as having some spermicidal potential based on in vitro studies, but further research is needed to establish safety and efficacy in humans. Overall, the primary support for neem in reproductive health is derived from traditional practices rather than strong scientific evidence.
