Scientific research has shown that I3C can modulate the metabolism of estrogen, favoring the production of less potent estrogen metabolites (such as 2-hydroxyestrone) over more potent forms (like 16α-hydroxyestrone), which is thought to be beneficial in conditions influenced by estrogen, such as certain types of estrogen-sensitive breast cancers and cervical dysplasia.
Several clinical studies and laboratory experiments have explored I3C's potential in the management of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), a precancerous condition associated with HPV infection.
