Evidence supporting the use of: Eurycomanone
For the body system: Reproductive System
Synopsis
Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 3
Eurycomanone is a quassinoid compound found in the plant Eurycoma longifolia, commonly known as Tongkat Ali or Longjack. This plant has a long history of use in traditional Southeast Asian medicine, particularly for enhancing male reproductive health and sexual function. Modern scientific studies have begun to validate some of these traditional claims. Research indicates that eurycomanone may stimulate the production of testosterone by increasing the release of luteinizing hormone, which in turn promotes testosterone biosynthesis in the testes. Animal studies and a number of human clinical trials have shown increases in serum testosterone levels, improvements in sperm quality, motility, and concentration in men who supplement with Tongkat Ali extracts containing eurycomanone.
Additionally, some studies suggest that eurycomanone may improve erectile function, libido, and overall sexual well-being, likely due to its androgenic effects. Despite these promising results, the evidence base is still limited, with most human trials being of small sample size, short duration, or not using purified eurycomanone. Overall, there is moderate scientific support (evidence rating: 3/5) for the use of eurycomanone in supporting the male reproductive system, especially testosterone levels and sperm parameters. Further large-scale, long-term clinical trials are needed to more conclusively establish efficacy and safety.
