Evidence supporting the use of: Baliospermum
For the body system: Reproductive System
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Baliospermum montanum is a medicinal plant traditionally used in Ayurvedic and other South Asian folk medicine systems. Historical texts and ethnobotanical surveys indicate that the root and seed of Baliospermum are employed in formulations for various ailments, including as an aphrodisiac and to promote reproductive health, particularly in men. However, the majority of the support for its use in the reproductive system is based on traditional practices rather than robust scientific studies. There are anecdotal and ethnomedicinal reports of its use to address issues such as infertility and sexual weakness, but peer-reviewed clinical research validating these effects is lacking. Some phytochemical studies indicate that Baliospermum contains compounds like diterpenes and flavonoids, which may influence physiological processes, but their direct impact on reproductive function in humans has not been systematically studied. Therefore, while there is a traditional basis for using Baliospermum to support the reproductive system, scientific validation is minimal or absent at this time.
