Agnuside is a key iridoid glycoside found in the fruit of Vitex agnus-castus (chaste tree), a plant traditionally used in European and Mediterranean herbal medicine to support reproductive health, especially in women. The use of Vitex agnus-castus for menstrual disorders, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and other reproductive system concerns dates back to ancient Greece and Rome, where it was believed to influence hormonal balance. The traditional application centers on its reputed ability to modulate the menstrual cycle and alleviate symptoms such as breast tenderness and mood swings associated with PMS.
