Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Hairy Fig (Ficus hirta) has been used in traditional Chinese medicine and other regional folk medicines for various ailments, including skin conditions such as rashes and hives. The traditional use is based on its perceived cooling and detoxifying properties, often described in Chinese medicine terminology as "clearing heat" and "removing toxins." Decoctions or topical applications made from Hairy Fig roots or fruits have historically been employed to relieve itching and reduce inflammation associated with skin eruptions.

However, there is a lack of robust scientific research specifically examining the efficacy or active compounds of Hairy Fig in the treatment of rashes or urticaria (hives). Most available scientific literature focuses on its general antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, but not directly on dermatological applications. No well-designed clinical trials or pharmacological studies have established its benefit for rashes or hives in humans. Therefore, while its use is rooted in tradition, the evidence supporting its efficacy for these conditions is weak and largely anecdotal.
