Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Argan nut oil has a long history of traditional use in Morocco and surrounding regions for various skin conditions, including rashes and hives. The oil is rich in vitamin E, fatty acids, and antioxidants, which have made it a popular remedy for soothing irritated skin in folk medicine. Historically, it has been applied topically to alleviate symptoms of dryness, itchiness, and inflammation associated with various dermatological issues. However, scientific studies specifically investigating argan oil's efficacy in treating rashes or hives (urticaria) are limited and mostly anecdotal. Some in vitro and animal studies indicate that argan oil can promote wound healing and reduce inflammation, largely attributed to its antioxidant content. Yet, there are no high-quality clinical trials directly supporting its use for allergic skin reactions such as hives. The safety profile is generally good, but rare allergic reactions (especially in those with nut allergies) have been reported. Overall, the evidence for using argan oil for rashes and hives relies primarily on traditional use and theoretical benefits based on its known skin-soothing properties, rather than robust scientific validation.
