Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Five-leaf Chastetree (Vitex negundo) has a long-standing history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine. It is commonly employed as a remedy for a range of hormonal and reproductive health issues, including those associated with puberty. Traditionally, the plant is believed to act as a hormone balancer, and it has been used to alleviate menstrual irregularities and symptoms that may arise during puberty, such as dysmenorrhea and irregular cycles. These uses are largely based on empirical knowledge and cultural practices rather than rigorous scientific study.
However, while its close relative, Vitex agnus-castus (chasteberry), has been studied more extensively for its effects on hormonal balance, there is a lack of robust clinical evidence specifically supporting the use of Five-leaf Chastetree (Vitex negundo) for hormone balancing during puberty. Most available data are limited to animal studies or in vitro experiments, with very few human clinical trials. Consequently, its use for puberty-related hormonal balancing remains rooted in traditional practice rather than validated by modern scientific research.
