Hyperoside is a flavonoid glycoside found in various medicinal plants, such as Hypericum perforatum (St. John’s Wort) and Crataegus species. Its use in supporting or treating psoriasis has some preliminary scientific basis, though clinical evidence in humans is lacking.

Recent in vitro and animal studies have explored hyperoside’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, which are relevant to the pathogenesis of psoriasis. For example, a study by Sun et al. (2020) in Frontiers in Pharmacology demonstrated that hyperoside suppressed inflammatory cytokine production in keratinocytes and reduced skin inflammation in a mouse model of psoriasis-like dermatitis. The proposed mechanisms involve inhibition of the NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways, both of which are implicated in psoriasis pathology.

However, these findings are primarily preclinical. There are no published randomized controlled trials or substantial human data supporting the efficacy of hyperoside in psoriasis patients. Traditional or ethnobotanical use of hyperoside-containing plants for psoriasis is also not well-documented.

In summary, the use of hyperoside for psoriasis is scientifically plausible based on cellular and animal data, but the current level of evidence remains low (rated 2/5). More rigorous clinical trials are needed to establish its safety and efficacy in humans with psoriasis.
