For the health condition: Prostatitis
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Antler horn (commonly referred to as "deer antler" or "lu rong" in traditional Chinese medicine) has been used in East Asian herbal medicine for centuries. Its primary traditional uses are to tonify the kidney, strengthen yang, nourish blood, and support general vitality. In the context of prostatitis, its use is based on traditional beliefs that "kidney deficiency" or "yang deficiency" can contribute to male urogenital issues, including those affecting the prostate. However, there is little to no direct evidence from classical texts that specifically target prostatitis as a condition for antler horn treatment; rather, it is used more broadly for male reproductive and urinary complaints.
From a scientific perspective, there is very limited evidence to support the use of antler horn for prostatitis. Some laboratory studies have investigated the anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effects of deer antler extracts, but these are preliminary and do not specifically address prostatitis in humans. No high-quality clinical trials have been conducted to support its use for this condition. Overall, its application is primarily grounded in tradition rather than scientific validation.
