Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Boron is a trace mineral that has been investigated for its role in various physiological processes, including bone health, cognitive function, and hormone metabolism. Regarding prostate health, some scientific studies suggest that boron may exert protective effects. Epidemiological research has observed lower prostate cancer incidence in populations with higher boron intake. Animal and cell culture studies indicate that boron can influence the metabolism of sex hormones, such as testosterone and estrogen, and may reduce prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, which are associated with prostate health. Additionally, boron has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties in laboratory settings, which could support prostate tissue integrity.

However, direct clinical evidence in humans is limited. Few controlled human trials have specifically assessed boron supplementation for the prevention or management of prostate conditions, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or prostate cancer. Most available data are observational or preclinical. Consequently, while there is a plausible scientific rationale and preliminary evidence supporting boron's role in prostate health, the strength of the evidence remains modest and further well-designed human studies are needed to substantiate these findings.
