Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Arginine silicate, often in the form of arginine silicate inositol (ASI), has been investigated for its potential benefits in supporting vascular function and improving blood flow, which are relevant to the pathophysiology of peripheral neuropathy, especially when caused by diabetes. The theoretical basis relies on L-arginine's role as a precursor to nitric oxide, a key molecule in vasodilation and endothelial health. Some small clinical studies and preclinical data suggest that ASI can enhance microcirculation and endothelial function, potentially addressing some vascular components of peripheral neuropathy.

However, direct evidence for arginine silicate as a treatment for peripheral neuropathy is limited. Most available research focuses on its effects on vascular markers or exercise performance rather than neuropathic symptoms or nerve regeneration. A few pilot studies have evaluated ASI in diabetic populations and reported improvements in vascular health, which could indirectly benefit neuropathic symptoms, but these studies are small and not definitive.

Currently, there is insufficient large-scale clinical evidence demonstrating a significant or consistent benefit of arginine silicate specifically for peripheral neuropathy. While the mechanistic rationale is plausible and some early results are promising, further research is needed. Therefore, the use of arginine silicate for peripheral neuropathy is supported by limited scientific evidence, meriting a moderate-low evidence rating.
