Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Oldenlandia, particularly Oldenlandia corymbosa and Oldenlandia diffusa, has been used in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and folk medicine across South and Southeast Asia. Historically, these plants have been employed for a variety of ailments, including fever, inflammation, and infectious diseases. There are some traditional reports and anecdotal uses suggesting Oldenlandia may help with intestinal parasites and worms, likely due to its general reputation as a "detoxifying" or "cleansing" herb.

However, scientific research specifically examining the anti-parasitic (nematocidal or anthelminthic) efficacy of Oldenlandia species is extremely limited. Only a few in vitro and animal studies have explored antiparasitic action, and those that do exist often focus on other properties such as antibacterial or antitumor effects. There is no robust clinical or pharmacological evidence to support the use of Oldenlandia as a treatment for nematode or worm infections. Thus, while its use may be justified in traditional settings, it is not validated by modern scientific studies, and the quality of evidence is weak.
