Evidence supporting the use of: Indian bael
For the body system: Pancreas Head
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Indian bael (Aegle marmelos) has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, where it is primarily valued for its effects on digestion and as a remedy for gastrointestinal disorders. There is traditional belief that it benefits the pancreas and may help regulate blood sugar, which links it indirectly to pancreatic health. Historically, bael fruit and leaves have been used in various formulations aimed at supporting diabetes management, which involves pancreatic function, but the focus is more on glycemic control rather than direct support of the pancreas as an organ. Scientific research on bael’s direct role in supporting pancreatic health, particularly the pancreas head or related body system, is limited. Some preclinical studies suggest bael extracts may have hypoglycemic effects and could help regenerate pancreatic beta cells in diabetic animal models, but robust clinical evidence in humans is lacking. No major regulatory or medical body currently recognizes bael as a proven support for pancreatic health. Thus, while the use of Indian bael for supporting the pancreas is rooted in traditional practices, scientific validation remains modest and indirect.
