Emerging scientific interest has prompted several small-scale studies and case reports exploring this connection. A notable pilot study published in 2022 found that high-dose vitamin B6 supplementation (100 mg/day for one month) reduced anxiety and self-reported symptoms in young adults, although OCD-specific outcomes were not a primary focus. Other research has indicated that B6 may enhance GABAergic activity, potentially reducing the hyperexcitability associated with OCD symptoms. However, evidence remains limited and inconsistent, with most studies being small, not OCD-specific, or lacking rigorous controls. There is minimal traditional or historical precedent for using vitamin B6 to treat OCD; its use is rooted in modern neurochemical theories rather than longstanding medical practice. As of 2024, mainstream clinical guidelines do not recommend vitamin B6 as a primary or adjunctive therapy for OCD.
