Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Japanese Apricot (Prunus mume, also known as Ume) is traditionally used in East Asian medicine for a variety of health conditions, including digestive complaints and general vitality. Its use for night sweating (often associated with menopausal symptoms or other conditions causing excessive perspiration at night) is rooted primarily in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbal medicine practices. The fruit is sometimes included in multi-herb formulas intended to harmonize the body's internal balance and address symptoms like sweating, but it is rarely used as a standalone remedy for this purpose. Theoretical explanations often cite its purported ability to "astringe" or "stabilize" bodily fluids.

However, scientific studies specifically evaluating Japanese Apricot for night sweats are lacking. While there is some research into its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, and even its effect on certain metabolic parameters, these do not directly relate to the mechanism of night sweating. The rating of 2 reflects that, while there is a clear historical precedent in traditional medicine, there is little to no modern clinical evidence supporting its effectiveness for night sweating specifically.
