Rating (out of 5): 1

Cnidium (Cnidium monnieri, known as "She Chuang Zi" in Traditional Chinese Medicine) has a historical use primarily in East Asian herbal medicine. It is traditionally used for conditions related to skin, sexual health, and as a general tonic, but there are scattered records of its use for pain management, including neuralgia and neuritis. However, these references are not central to its traditional role—the herb’s major indications are for dermatological and reproductive issues rather than neurological ones.

There is little to no robust clinical or preclinical scientific evidence validating the use of Cnidium for neuralgia (nerve pain) or neuritis (nerve inflammation). Most modern research focuses on its potential anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, or aphrodisiac effects, and not specifically on neuralgia or neuritis. The rationale for its occasional traditional use for nerve-related pain may stem from its general anti-inflammatory activity, but this is speculative and not well documented in either the scientific literature or major traditional herbal pharmacopeias.

Given the lack of direct evidence—either traditional or scientific—the use of Cnidium to treat or support neuralgia and neuritis should be considered anecdotal at best, and not a well-supported therapeutic approach.
