Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has traditionally been used in various cultures as a folk remedy for digestive issues, including nausea and vomiting. Historical uses are primarily anecdotal and rooted in folk medicine rather than scientific research. ACV’s reputation for aiding digestion and settling the stomach comes from its use in home remedies, particularly as part of mixtures with honey or ginger to soothe nausea, especially in cases of mild indigestion or morning sickness. However, the scientific evidence supporting ACV’s efficacy for treating or preventing nausea and vomiting is extremely limited. No high-quality clinical trials have demonstrated a clear benefit of ACV for these symptoms, and there is a lack of mechanistic data to support its use. In some cases, consuming ACV may even irritate the stomach lining due to its acidity, potentially worsening symptoms in sensitive individuals. Contemporary medical resources and reviews do not recommend ACV as a treatment for nausea or vomiting. Thus, while ACV’s use for this condition persists in traditional and alternative medicine circles, this practice is not supported by scientific validation and should be approached with caution.
