Urolithin A is a metabolite produced by gut microflora from dietary ellagitannins found in foods such as pomegranates, berries, and nuts. Its use to support the muscular system is primarily based on recent scientific research rather than traditional usage. Preclinical studies have shown that Urolithin A can induce mitophagy, a process that removes dysfunctional mitochondria from cells, thereby improving mitochondrial health and function. Improved mitochondrial function is associated with enhanced muscle endurance and strength, particularly in aging populations.

Several animal studies have demonstrated that supplementation with Urolithin A leads to increased muscle function and endurance. Human clinical trials, though limited, have also provided promising results.
