Evidence for Inositol-Stabilized Arginine Silicate and Muscle Support

Inositol-stabilized arginine silicate (sometimes referred to as Nitrosigine®) is a compound formed from arginine, silicon, and inositol. It is primarily marketed and researched as a sports nutrition supplement aimed at supporting muscle performance, particularly through enhanced blood flow and nitric oxide (NO) production.

Several peer-reviewed studies have evaluated the effects of inositol-stabilized arginine silicate on exercise performance. The compound has been shown to increase blood levels of arginine and nitric oxide, which may improve vasodilation and thus blood flow to muscles during exercise. For example, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial published in Nutrition Research (2015) found that supplementation with this compound increased plasma arginine and improved certain markers of muscle recovery after exercise-induced muscle damage.

Other studies have demonstrated improvements in muscle pump, perceived energy, and reductions in markers of muscle damage and soreness, suggesting a role in recovery and performance. However, these studies tend to be small and short in duration, and most are conducted in healthy, recreationally active adults.

While the current scientific evidence does support the use of inositol-stabilized arginine silicate for improving blood flow and some aspects of muscle performance and recovery, more large-scale and long-term studies are needed to establish its efficacy more conclusively. Therefore, the current evidence rating is moderate (3/5).
