Ibutamoren (also known as MK-677) is a non-peptide agonist of the ghrelin receptor that stimulates the secretion of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). Its use to support the muscles body system is primarily based on scientific evidence rather than traditional medicine. Multiple clinical studies have shown that Ibutamoren increases circulating levels of GH and IGF-1, both of which play key roles in muscle growth and maintenance.

Research in both healthy adults and elderly populations has demonstrated that Ibutamoren increases lean body mass, which reflects an increase in muscle mass. For example, a 1998 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial by Nass et al. in healthy adults aged 60-81 found that daily administration of Ibutamoren for 12 months significantly increased lean body mass and basal metabolic rate, without increasing total fat mass. Additional studies have shown improvements in muscle strength and function, though the evidence is stronger for increases in muscle mass than for functional outcomes.

Ibutamoren is not approved for medical use by regulatory agencies, and most studies have been relatively short-term, so the long-term safety and efficacy remain uncertain. However, the current body of evidence supports its potential to promote muscle growth by mimicking the action of ghrelin and stimulating endogenous GH secretion. This distinguishes Ibutamoren from anabolic steroids or traditional herbal remedies, as its efficacy is scientifically validated, although further long-term research is warranted.
