Rating (out of 5): 3

Cardarine (also known as GW501516) is a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARδ) agonist developed in the 1990s. It is not a traditional supplement, nor does it have a history of use in folk medicine; its application is rooted in modern biomedical research. Cardarine has been investigated in preclinical and some early human studies for its effects on fatty acid metabolism, endurance, and muscle preservation. Animal studies and limited human data suggest that Cardarine can increase the expression of genes involved in fat burning and energy expenditure, which may help support muscle endurance and reduce the loss of muscle during periods of caloric deficit or intense exercise.

However, while the evidence for Cardarine's muscle-supporting effects is scientifically grounded—with studies showing increased exercise performance and improved muscle oxidative capacity in rodents—there is a lack of large, well-controlled human trials. Furthermore, the drug was abandoned in clinical development due to safety concerns, particularly potential carcinogenicity observed in animal studies, and it is not approved for human use by regulatory agencies. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has also banned its use in sports. In summary, there is moderate scientific evidence from animal research and early human studies that Cardarine can support aspects of muscle function and endurance, but its use is not recommended due to significant safety concerns and lack of robust clinical data.
