Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Arsenic has been used in traditional medicine systems, including homeopathy and some forms of early Western medicine, to treat a variety of ailments, including migraines. In homeopathy, "Arsenicum album" (a highly diluted preparation of arsenic trioxide) is sometimes recommended for headaches and migraines, particularly those accompanied by restlessness and anxiety. However, these uses are based on historical practices rather than robust scientific evidence. There are no high-quality clinical trials or systematic reviews supporting the efficacy or safety of arsenic or arsenic compounds in the treatment of migraine. Moreover, arsenic is a well-known toxin with significant risks, and its use in medicine has been largely abandoned due to safety concerns. Modern migraine treatments do not include arsenic, and its use for this condition persists only in some traditional or alternative medicine practices, not in evidence-based medicine. Therefore, any support for arsenic in migraine management is rooted primarily in tradition, with little to no scientific validation.
