Naringin is a flavonoid glycoside predominantly found in grapefruit and other citrus fruits. Its use for supporting or treating Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is justified by a growing body of scientific evidence, primarily from preclinical (animal and cell culture) studies, and increasingly from small human clinical trials. Naringin exhibits several biological activities relevant to MetS: it improves glucose metabolism, reduces insulin resistance, modulates lipid profiles, and exerts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Mechanistically, naringin is thought to enhance the activity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), improve insulin sensitivity, and inhibit enzymes involved in cholesterol synthesis, contributing to the amelioration of dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia.

Animal studies have consistently shown that naringin supplementation can reduce blood glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol, and can improve markers of oxidative stress and inflammation. Some small-scale human trials suggest improvements in lipid profiles and glycemic control, but results are not uniformly positive and larger, longer-term studies are needed. While naringin has not traditionally been used as a standalone treatment for MetS in herbal medicine systems, its presence in citrus fruits—long consumed for general health—provides a background of safety and tolerability.

In summary, scientific evidence supports the potential use of naringin for Metabolic Syndrome, but the current clinical evidence is still limited. More robust human studies are required to confirm efficacy and optimal dosing, but preclinical data are promising and justify further investigation.
