Metabolic syndrome encompasses a cluster of conditions, including insulin resistance, obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. The rationale for studying chitin-glucan in this context stems from its properties as a dietary fiber and its potential prebiotic effects on the gut microbiota.

Limited but notable scientific studies, primarily in animal models and some small human trials, have suggested that supplementation with chitin-glucan may improve certain metabolic markers. For example, animal studies have reported reduced body weight gain, improved glucose tolerance, and better lipid profiles following chitin-glucan administration. Human trials are rarer and typically involve small sample sizes, but some have observed modest improvements in LDL cholesterol and markers of inflammation.

The mechanisms proposed include modulation of gut microbiota, enhancement of short-chain fatty acid production, and interference with dietary fat absorption.
