Bacillus subtilis is a probiotic bacterium that has drawn scientific interest for its potential role in supporting metabolic health, including aspects of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of risk factors—such as abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and insulin resistance—that increase the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Recent preclinical and some early human studies suggest that Bacillus subtilis supplementation may influence metabolic parameters. In animal models, administration of B. subtilis has been associated with improvements in glucose tolerance, reductions in serum triglycerides, and modulation of inflammation—all of which are relevant to MetS. The proposed mechanisms include enhancement of gut barrier function, modulation of the gut microbiota, production of beneficial metabolites (like short-chain fatty acids), and immune system regulation.
