Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

White Fig (Ficus carica), commonly known as the common fig, has roots in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures. Traditional healers have utilized different parts of the fig tree, including its fruit, leaves, and sap, for a variety of health concerns, including female reproductive health. Anecdotal and folk uses often cite figs for their general nutritive value and potential to balance hormones, which has led to their inclusion in some menopause-supportive diets or regimens. However, direct references to the use of White Fig specifically for menopause symptoms are sparse in classical texts. Most of the support comes from broader claims about fig’s effects on digestion, energy, and overall vitality, rather than targeted menopausal relief.

From a scientific perspective, there is currently little to no robust clinical evidence that directly supports the use of White Fig for menopause symptom management. While figs do contain phytoestrogens and antioxidants, which in theory could be beneficial for hormonal balance, studies investigating their specific effects on menopausal symptoms are lacking. Therefore, its use for menopause is primarily justified by tradition, with weak evidence and no established clinical backing.
