Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Rose water has been used traditionally in various cultures for its soothing, cooling, and mildly uplifting properties, but its application specifically for menopause is primarily anecdotal. In traditional Persian and Ayurvedic medicine, rose water has been used to "balance hormones," alleviate mood disturbances, and promote general well-being—symptoms often associated with menopause such as hot flashes, irritability, and insomnia. However, these uses are rooted in historical practice and cultural beliefs rather than in scientific validation.

There is a lack of robust scientific evidence supporting the use of rose water for menopausal symptoms. Only limited studies have explored rose oil aromatherapy for emotional symptoms or stress, and even fewer have looked directly at menopause. Most of the proposed benefits are extrapolated from rose water’s soothing or anti-inflammatory effects, or from its use in aromatherapy for general mood improvement. No large-scale clinical trials have confirmed its efficacy for hot flashes, hormonal balance, or other menopause-specific symptoms. Therefore, while the use of rose water in menopause is justified by tradition, the scientific evidence is minimal, and any benefits are largely anecdotal or placebo-driven.
