Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Pine pollen has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where it is valued for its purported ability to balance hormones and support general vitality. Some TCM practitioners recommend pine pollen for symptoms associated with menopause, such as fatigue, mood disturbances, or hormonal fluctuations, based on the belief that it contains plant-based phytoandrogens and nutrients that may support endocrine health. However, this traditional use is not grounded in robust clinical evidence. While pine pollen does contain small amounts of phytohormones, including testosterone and other sterols, no well-designed human studies have confirmed its efficacy or safety for menopausal symptom management. Most available data are limited to animal studies or in vitro experiments, which are insufficient for drawing clinical conclusions. Therefore, while its use for menopause is supported by tradition, the scientific backing is minimal, and its overall evidence rating remains low.
