Laboratory studies and animal models suggest that cinnamon and its key bioactive compounds, particularly cinnamaldehyde and epicatechin, may have neuroprotective properties. For example, studies in mice have indicated that cinnamon extract may reduce brain oxidative stress and improve memory performance, possibly by inhibiting tau aggregation—a process implicated in Alzheimer’s disease (Peterson et al., 2013).
Some in vitro research also suggests potential anti-inflammatory and anti-amyloid properties, which could theoretically support brain health. However, human clinical trials are scarce.
