Evidence supporting the use of: Marigold
For the body system: Lymphatics
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Marigold, most commonly referring to Calendula officinalis, has a long history of traditional use in herbal medicine, particularly in European and folk systems. It has been valued for its purported anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and lymphatic-stimulating properties. Herbalists have historically used marigold preparations—such as teas, tinctures, and topical applications—to support the lymphatic system, believing it helps with lymphatic drainage and reduces swelling or stagnation. However, scientific evidence specifically linking marigold to lymphatic system support is limited. Most modern research focuses on marigold’s wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, rather than direct effects on lymphatic function. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest immunomodulatory effects, but robust clinical trials in humans for lymphatic health are lacking. Therefore, while marigold’s use for the lymphatic system is supported by tradition and plausible mechanisms extrapolated from related actions, it is not strongly validated by current scientific evidence.
