Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Lysimachia, commonly known as loosestrife and called "Jin Qian Cao" in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has a long-standing history of use in East Asian herbal traditions. It is primarily used to clear heat, resolve toxicity, and promote urination, often in cases of jaundice, urinary stones, and edema. In some traditional texts and herbal compendia, Lysimachia is also referenced for use in treating "phlegm-fire" or "toxic swelling," which can be interpreted as swelling of lymph nodes or glands due to infection or inflammation. However, these uses are rooted in the language and frameworks of TCM, not in modern biomedical science.

There is limited scientific research directly examining Lysimachia’s efficacy for swollen lymph nodes or glands. Some studies have investigated its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which might indirectly support traditional uses for conditions involving swelling or infection. However, these studies are preliminary, often in vitro or in animal models, and do not specifically address lymphatic or glandular swelling in humans. Overall, the support for this application is largely traditional, with limited but suggestive pharmacological evidence that has not yet been corroborated by clinical trials.
