Asoka (Saraca asoca) is traditionally used in Ayurveda and other systems of Indian medicine for the management of various gynecological conditions, including leucorrhea (abnormal vaginal discharge). The bark of Asoka is considered a uterine tonic and is included in several classical Ayurvedic formulations for female reproductive health. Historical Ayurvedic texts like the Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya mention its use in disorders characterized by excessive vaginal discharge, citing its astringent, anti-inflammatory, and tonic properties. The rationale is mostly based on its action of reducing excessive secretions and supporting uterine health.

However, scientific validation for the effectiveness of Asoka bark in treating leucorrhea is limited. A few preliminary studies and pharmacological investigations have suggested anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and estrogenic activity of Asoka extracts, which could theoretically support its use for gynecological complaints. Despite these findings, robust clinical trials specifically assessing its efficacy in leucorrhea are lacking. As a result, its use is mainly justified on the basis of traditional knowledge rather than strong scientific evidence.

In summary, the use of Asoka for leucorrhea is primarily supported by traditional Ayurvedic practice. Although there are some promising pharmacological findings, more high-quality clinical studies are required to confirm its effectiveness for this specific condition.
