Lactobacillus plantarum is a well-studied probiotic bacterium commonly found in fermented foods and the human gastrointestinal tract. Its use to support the large intestine (colon) is primarily justified by scientific evidence. Multiple clinical and preclinical studies have shown that L. plantarum can help maintain a healthy balance of intestinal microbiota, inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and reinforce the gut barrier function. It has been shown to support immune modulation and reduce intestinal inflammation. Several randomized controlled trials have demonstrated its effectiveness in alleviating symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), such as bloating, abdominal pain, and irregular bowel movements—conditions directly related to colon health.
Moreover, L. plantarum produces short-chain fatty acids and antimicrobial substances that contribute to colon health.
