Bifidobacterium adolescentis is a species of probiotic bacteria naturally present in the human gut, especially in the large intestine (colon). Its use to support large intestinal health is primarily justified by scientific evidence. Research indicates that B. adolescentis plays a significant role in maintaining colon health by modulating the gut microbiota, enhancing the intestinal barrier, and influencing immune responses. Multiple human and animal studies have shown that supplementation with B. adolescentis can help increase levels of beneficial short-chain fatty acids (such as butyrate), which nourish colonocytes and contribute to anti-inflammatory effects in the colon (Sakurai et al., 2019). Moreover, some clinical trials have reported improvements in constipation and irritable bowel syndrome symptoms with the use of B. adolescentis-containing probiotics (Wang et al., 2019).

While more large-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to determine the full therapeutic potential and optimal strains or doses, the current body of evidence supports the use of B. adolescentis in maintaining and restoring colon health, particularly related to gut barrier integrity, inflammation, and bowel regularity.
