Dendrobium fimbriatum is an orchid species widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is known as "Shi Hu." In TCM, Dendrobium species—including D. fimbriatum—are believed to "nourish Yin" and support the kidneys and stomach. Classical texts and materia medica describe its use for symptoms thought to be associated with kidney deficiency, such as dry mouth, thirst, and fatigue. However, the majority of this usage is based on traditional beliefs and empirical use rather than modern scientific validation.

There is limited scientific research specifically on D. fimbriatum's effects on kidney function. Most modern studies focus on related species like Dendrobium nobile, and these generally investigate antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, or immunomodulatory activities. A few in vitro and animal studies have indicated potential nephroprotective effects for some Dendrobium extracts, but high-quality clinical trials in humans are lacking. Thus, while the traditional usage is well-documented, robust scientific evidence for kidney support in humans is absent. As such, the evidence rating is moderate for tradition but low for science.
