Deer Root (also known as Colinsonia canadensis) is an herb traditionally used in North American herbal medicine, particularly by Indigenous peoples and later by eclectic physicians in the 19th century. Its historical application focused largely on supporting kidney and urinary tract health, as well as relieving symptoms related to kidney stones, urinary irritation, and water retention. The root was often used as a diuretic, believed to promote urine flow and thus support the kidneys’ natural detoxification functions. However, its use for kidney support is based primarily on traditional knowledge and anecdotal reports rather than robust scientific studies.

To date, there is a lack of substantial modern clinical research validating Deer Root’s efficacy for kidney health. Most evidence remains historical, with herbal texts and early medical literature documenting its applications. No major pharmacological analyses or clinical trials have been published to confirm its mechanisms or effectiveness for the kidneys.
