Corktree, commonly referring to Phellodendron amurense (Amur cork tree), has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In TCM, the bark—known as Huang Bai—is considered a key herb for clearing "damp-heat," especially in the lower body, which often includes conditions attributed to the Kidneys and urinary tract. Huang Bai is traditionally believed to help with issues such as urinary tract infections, inflammation, and certain types of kidney dysfunction, often in combination with other herbs. However, while there are preclinical studies exploring the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties of Phellodendron extracts, direct scientific validation for its efficacy in supporting kidney function in humans is limited. Most available research involves cell cultures or animal models, not clinical trials.
