Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) has a long history of use in traditional medicine, particularly within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, where it is sometimes recommended to support kidney health and function. In TCM, related species such as Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari) are believed to nourish yin and are thought to have diuretic properties, which are considered beneficial for the kidneys. Folk medicine in various cultures has also used asparagus for its supposed ability to promote urine flow and help flush out the urinary tract.

However, scientific evidence supporting a direct benefit of asparagus for kidney health is limited. Some studies have shown that asparagus possesses mild diuretic effects due to its asparagine content, which may increase urine production.
