Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Chrysanthellum americanum (also known as "golden chamomile" or "American chrysanthemum") has a history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in West Africa and parts of Latin America. Its uses have included support for liver disorders, digestive issues, and as an anti-inflammatory. There are some reports in ethnobotanical literature that it has been employed in folk medicine for urinary tract issues, which may include support for kidney stones, but these references are usually anecdotal, not systematic, and are often not specific about dosage or preparation. Scientifically, there is very limited research directly examining its efficacy for kidney stones. Most modern studies focus on its flavonoid and saponin content, antioxidant properties, and hepatoprotective effects, rather than litholytic (stone-dissolving) activity. Thus, while traditional use exists and there is some plausibility based on its anti-inflammatory and potential diuretic effects, neither robust clinical trials nor detailed pharmacological studies directly validate its use for kidney stones. Overall, the evidence for Chrysanthellum americanum in supporting or treating kidney stones is rooted in tradition, with a low strength of supporting evidence.
