Babchi (Psoralea corylifolia) has a long history of use in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine, primarily for skin conditions. However, it is also cited in traditional texts for supporting the joints and alleviating symptoms associated with joint discomfort and inflammation. In Ayurveda, Babchi is sometimes recommended for conditions described as “Vata disorders,” which can include joint pain and stiffness. Its seeds and oil have been used in formulations aimed at reducing swelling and supporting joint function, although these uses are much less commonly emphasized compared to its dermatological applications.

Scientifically, there is limited direct evidence supporting Babchi’s efficacy for joint health. Some preclinical studies indicate that compounds within Babchi, such as bakuchiol and psoralen, have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which could theoretically benefit the joints. However, clinical trials in humans are lacking, and most cited benefits come from traditional practice rather than modern research. As such, while Babchi’s application for joint health is rooted in traditional medicine, robust scientific validation is currently insufficient.
