Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Servicetree (Sorbus domestica) has traditionally been used in some European folk medicine systems for the management of jaundice and other liver-related ailments. The use is primarily based on anecdotal evidence and historical herbal texts rather than on rigorous scientific studies. In traditional medicine, the fruits and sometimes the bark or leaves were believed to have hepatoprotective and choleretic effects, which could theoretically aid in jaundice by promoting bile flow and supporting liver function.

However, there is minimal to no scientific evidence from clinical trials or pharmacological studies to substantiate these traditional claims. A few in vitro studies have identified the antioxidant properties of Servicetree fruit extracts, but these have not been specifically linked to any anti-jaundice activity in humans. No randomized controlled trials or animal studies directly support its efficacy for treating jaundice. As a result, while the traditional use exists, the evidence base is weak and does not justify its recommendation for jaundice treatment in adults from a scientific standpoint.

Overall, Servicetree's use for jaundice is rooted in tradition, but lacks modern scientific validation, and should not be considered a substitute for evidence-based medical treatments for liver conditions.
