Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) has traditionally been used as a supportive ingredient for insomnia, largely based on its role in neurotransmitter synthesis. Historically, some practitioners and traditional health systems have recommended vitamin B6 supplementation to help with sleep, under the rationale that it is involved in the production of serotonin and melatonin—both of which play crucial roles in regulating sleep cycles. However, scientific validation for its effectiveness in treating insomnia is limited and generally weak.
Some small studies and anecdotal reports have suggested that B6, especially when combined with other supplements like magnesium, may improve sleep quality or reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. However, larger, more rigorous clinical trials are lacking, and the evidence remains inconclusive and sometimes contradictory. The few studies that do exist often use B6 as part of a multinutrient or complex intervention, making it difficult to isolate its individual effects.
